In Florida, CNN reports that COVID has jumped 26% among school children as DeSantis refuses to release granular data.

CNN reported from Marion County today that Covid-19 cases among Florida children jumped 26% in one month and that now that Governor DeSantis has ordered some counties to keep school data hidden it has become difficult to know what schools may be safe for children and which are not. The problem extends beyond children to parents or other family members who may be more at risk or are elderly.

CNN reports that it began asking for each county school level data on August 31 and two weeks ago state officials said they would release the data in the “coming days and weeks”. To date, the data has not been released.

Due to the lack of transparency, some school districts have created their own dashboards but CNN is reporting that “the overall result is a patchwork of data that varies in completeness and timeliness by district at a time when students, parents, teachers and administrators are making tough decisions about whether to opt for virtual or in-person learning”
